About the transportation industry



In the Transportation Industry one must obtain a Commercial Driver's License (AZ License) in order to operate a Commercial Vehicle. As of July of 2017, Individuals must complete Mandatory Entry Level Training in order to obtain a Class AZ Commercial Driver's License in Ontario. The minimum requirement for MELT (Mandatory Entry Level Training) is 103.5 hours of training at a registered school. Upon completion of this training one must successfully pass the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario Road Test to become fully licensed.
DRIVING SUCCESS will help participants obtain employment by providing them with a Commercial Driver License to enter the Transportation Industry. The goal and expectation of DRIVING SUCCESS is for participants to enter the trucking industry with an entry level job at the completion of the project. Each participant will be set up with an employer that best suits their lifestyle needs and physical capabilities.
There are many ways to go in the trucking industry:
Long Haul:
- driving cross boarder driving
- delivering to Southern and Western USA
- away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time
- no touch freight
Regional Driving:
- some cross boarder driving
- Throughout Ontario and Eastern Canada/USA
- away for home 3-5 days at a time
- no touch frieght
Local Driving:
- driving locally (within a certain area)
- driving and labour (hand bombing- taking food/goods off trailer by hand to deliver)
- touch freight
- ability to lift up to 75lbs
- home nightly
